When I am out walking my boys, it is extremely common for me to get questions like: “Are they all yours?” ”Do they all get along?” and the most common comment of all is, “Wow, you certainly got your hands full!”
Let me tell you, 4 dogs is nothing. 40 on the other hand now, that is a different story…
The first business I started was Niagara Pet Resort, a place where dogs can be dogs. When we opened the doors we had 2-5 dogs, now we have 40-55. What makes us not just your regular boarding facility is that we are open concept, there are no kennels or runs and the dogs are with each other all day and night. At Niagara Pet Resort we live and breathe pack life.
I am so privileged and grateful to have such an amazing staff that surrounds and supports NPR. Everyday, dogs from all walks of life are able to step away from life and go back to being dogs.
There is nothing that compares to the power of a pack of dogs. The way they move, how they communicate, how they play. I have learned more about myself and the world from a pack of dogs than I have learned in any school or seminar.
Stick me in the middle of 40 dogs any day. There is really no place I would rather be. Dogs show us the true meaning of empathy, humility, and respect for nature that surrounds us. They are unconditional, forgiving, and can brighten some of the stormiest days.
How do I wrangle 40 dogs, you ask? The answer is balance. It can’t be explained, or taught – it’s the packs best kept secret.
