Big City & Beaches
We hit Malibu right on down to Laguna with a pit stop to the Hollywood sign in between. What a ride! California just gets better and better with every passing day. It is hard to imagine ever leaving.
If you ever make the journey, a visit to L.A and Beverly Hills is an absolute must. You just have to go and see it for yourself. Do a city tour on an open top truck, see the Hollywood sign, and take the star walk on Hollywood Blvd. These are also all things you can do with a well behaved pup.
If you are an exotic car lover and the occasional fine diner like us then you are in for a real treat. Spoil yourself on the patio of The Ivy for an intense mouth watering experience, followed by a stroll through the fashion district, and a digestif at The Coffee Bean. The exotic cars are just every where so no need to look. All in all L.A is awesome….but the beach it beckons us!!
We don’t know what it is about bulldogs and boarding, but the two are like peanut butter and jelly. So far the beach communities and the boarders have been the best part for Harley. When he was a pup he loved skate boarding, so I think this visit has rejuvenated his inner boarder.
The beaches are all different and unique in their own ways. Depending on what you are into, one place may speak to you differently than another. If you are into surfers …well then almost every beach is for you!!
Malibu – Has over 30 beach nooks and crannies. Dogs are not welcome in many areas on the beach, but there are many hiking trails and paths to explore. With 21 miles of beach and the mountains behind you, it is definitely a place to see.
Venice & Santa Monica – Dog friendly just on the boardwalk. Check out our blog just on these beaches.
Huntington – Was one of our favourite hangouts where Harley was in his glory. Amazing surfing and kite boarding community.
They have “Golden Beach” which is just for dogs, the rest of the beach is dog friendly on the paths only. If you go, stop in Jack’s Surfboards and then grab a sandwich at Sessions. Both dog friendly and amazing!!
Newport – Up scale and beautiful. Newport is also a big dog community and they have their own designated dog beach.
Laguna – Is a cultural and artistic surf community. Still an Orange County high-end environment but with a laid back eclectic feel. Dog friendly around but not on the public beach.
When hitting the beach with your pup, carrying water and keeping them well hydrated is top priority. Respecting the boarders and volleyballers is a must. Have your pup relieve themselves before heading to the beach, everyone is barefoot and no one wants a surprise. If you have a well trained and raw fed dog then you have nothing to worry about!
We are headed to the dog friendly city of San Diego – stay tuned!
