Rawco in San Francisco
Tony Bennett was not lying when he sung “I left my heart in San Francisco”. We are sad to say good-bye to the beautiful city in the hills. It was such a memorable experience and left such an imprint in our hearts.
If you ever travel to San Francisco, you will be overwhelmed by the relaxed energy, the extremely pleasant people, and the ass kicking your transmission and brakes take from climbing the hills. This city is everything and more than people are saying about it.
Harley the Celebrity
On our first day, we played tourist and took Harley Dean down to Fisher Mans Wharf and Pier 39. We ate the famous clam chowder in a sour dough bread bowl, watched the sea lions, walked the pier, and checked out the views of Alcatraz.
Harley was a little celebrity, breaking the hearts of everyone he met. We dove down Lombard street, saw the “Painted Ladies”, and then hit up Fillmore Street for a mind blowing lobster roll and oysters.
Travelling with a dog, we were incredibly well received. There were many dog friendly patios and shops – where well-behaved pups were welcomed.
Harley & the Ocean
On our second day we drove into the city with local flare. We ate brunch at Park Chow, a dog friendly restaurant on 9th Ave, close to the back entrance of Golden Gate Park.
The food was all organic and sustainable. I truly have yet to experience a better brunch (Harley would agree)!
We then hiked the trails through Golden Gate Park.
It was a record breaking, 90 degree April day in San Francisco – which for the bay dwellers is extremely rare. The city was electric with local energy. Everyone was out to take in the sunshine.
Then, the most wonderful experience took place. On a whim we found the local entrance to Baker Beach. It is a public beach known for its breath taking views of the Golden Gate Bridge. It was here, for the very first time, Harley Dean saw and stepped into the great Pacific Ocean.
So there, amongst the cliffs with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background, Harley played and raced through the waves. If the whole picture perfect moment wasn’t enough, all of the sudden a pod of dolphins made an appearance… enough said.
Until next time San Francisco…. on to our trek down the coast with a visit to Big Sur.
More to Come…
This is only the beginning of our adventures here in the sunshine coast. We are looking forward to what’s in store for us as we continue our travels!
